Lynn Abeling Carey

In Memory of Lynn Abeling Carey

Lynn Abeling Carey is my sister. She was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer in November of 2007. She fought a valiant and courageous battle for five months. Lynn passed away on April 14, 2008.

In the midst of her treatments with chemotherapy, I started knitting socks to keep her feet warm. I knitted seven pairs of socks and in the process soothed the jagged edges of my grief as she faced this terrible disease.

I can't stop knitting now. I knit still to honor Lynn. In her career in human services, Lynn poured her compassion, her vision, and her expertise into meeting the needs of the under-housed, underemployed, homeless, unemployed, and destitute.

My vision is to supply domestic violence crisis shelters and homeless shelters in the state of New Hampshire with scarves, mittens, hats, blankets, socks, and sweaters of all sizes and all colors.

Would you like to join me? If you knit and want your artful craft to benefit someone you may never meet, you can honor a courageous woman who never gave up, never backed away from a challenge, and who gave us all a model for living and loving.
